Message from The Chairman
In the year 2003, we took a small but determined step into the world of media education. The odds were not stacked in our favour. The field was crowded with many businessmen having already jumped onto the bandwagon attracted by its glamour. In comparison to the five-star comforts they dangled before their students, our endeavour was relatively modest. The Pioneer Media School was launched offering just one course – a Post-graduate Diploma in Journalism. Our campus facilities too were functional compared to others. We promoted the School in a limited, selective manner whereas our competitors were way ahead in the number of full-page advertisements they took out. Only one thing gave us the confidence to sail forth: We believed none in the field of media training could match The Pioneer’s experience, understanding and dedication. We went into it because we are part of the media, the others have ventured because it seems a good business proposition.
Given this expertise and professional commitment, we can proudly claim to be producing the best media persons in the country. Our courses are rigorous. Impressed with our course content, competence of the faculty and hands-on-training, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism – India’s only full fledged university of journalism recognized by the UGC – has affiliated the Pioneer Media School for the 3-year degree course in BA Journalsim. The faculty is top rate and the training given is hands on. Needless to add, we have the most modern technical equipment-audio and video studios, NLE facilities, page making and designing on state- of-the-art computers, state-of-the-art Library having books on various subjects, and everything else that is required to equip tomorrow’s media person to rise to the challenges of the Ice Age. Where we are different from others is in the quality of the men and women behind the machines. Much of our training is given by practicing journalists, some from The Pioneer and others from the best newspapers, TV channels, radio stations, advertising, PR, Event and marketing organizations.
Under the supervision of qualified faculty supplemented by The Pioneer’s experienced staff, we are confident of being universally rated as a highly professional and respected media institution. I have always regarded the Indian media to be among the world’s most competent and competitive. At a time when our country is rapidly globalising, we need to showcase our inherent skills in mass communication with expertise and elan. It is within this larger parameter that we seek to establish the Pioneer Media School as a front-runner, nationally and internationally. Few organisations, after all, can match The Pioneer’s 143-year-long heritage and its ability to stay ahead of the times, at all times.
